- Marching Band is now completely extra-curricular. This means that it happens outside of normal school hours. Band 'class' is a different ensemble that will be rehearsing for the Fall concert as well as the upcoming musical.
- Pre-Camp begins on August 3 and last from 12-3 throughout the week. This is a mandatory camp for all members of the Marching Band. It is in this camp that we will refine how we march and learn how we will be setting drill so that we can hit the next week of full-on Band Camp at full speed.
- Color Guard and Percussion Camp occur after a dinner break on those days (August 3-7) from 4-8. This time is reserved for the specialized technique instruction and refinement and is mandatory for any members of the percussion of color guard sections.
- Band Camp is the next week: August 10-14 and happens from 12-9, with a dinner break at 4. The early hours of camp will be about music (while keeping us out of the hottest parts of the day) while after dinner will focus on the visual aspect of marching band as the sun begins to set. Friday, August 14 will be a shorter day, featuring a Show N' Tell (Parent Preview Show) at around 5 that evening.
- You DO need a completed physical in order to participate in marching band (or any school-sponsored physical activity).
- This year's show is all about different realms: from the Klingon world of Kronos (Star Trek: Into Darkness), to Hyrule (Zelda: Ocarina of Time), to the recently saved world of Gallifrey (Doctor Who)...this show will feature music from 3 very different places and offer some truly exciting moments for all involved.
- If you are unable to attend the camps in full, we will have to find an alternate position for you. Everyone's time is valuable...from your's, to the staff's, to that of each other member of the marching band. In order to move forward and make the best use of everyone's time, you must be able to attend both weeks of camp in full. Each drill spot is important and person specific...meaning that no other person can teach you your spot without missing learning or rehearsing their own.
- After camps, we will rehearse for one day a week. Time and schedule is currently unavailable for that day.
- We are a non-competitive group and will remain so. We focus on the learning and musical preparation that occurs with each member of the group, as well as the team-building and fun that is inherent within the activity. As such, we are able to have a marching band without claiming so much of a student's time that they are unable to commit themselves elsewhere.
